Flow transition to turbulence and induced acoustics at Mach 6

چکیده
This paper presents the results of implicit large eddy simulation (iLES) and direct numerical (DNS) for flow acoustics transitional turbulent boundary layer over a flat plate at Mach 6. The DNS was about 50 times more refined grid-wise than iLES. Both iLES were performed using same schemes, initial conditions. We compare different approaches concerning shape factor, momentum-thickness-based Reynolds number, heat flux on wall, stress, near-wall acoustics. perform pressure fluctuations spectral analysis propose predictive model. show that captures rather accurately acoustic characteristics in region. Transition to turbulence in particulate pipe flow.
We investigate experimentally the influence of suspended particles on the transition to turbulence. The particles are monodisperse and neutrally buoyant with the liquid. The role of the particles on the transition depends upon both the pipe to particle diameter ratios and the concentration. For large pipe-to-particle diameter ratios the transition is delayed while it is lowered for small ratios...
متن کاملControl of Nozzle Flow Using Microjets at Supersonic Mach Regime
This article reports the active control of base flows using the experimental procedure. Active control of base pressure helps in reducing the base drag in aerodynamic devices having suddenly expanded flows. Active control in the form of microjets having 0.5 mm radius placed at forty-five degrees apart is employed to control the base pressure. The Mach numbers of the present analysis are 1.7, 2....
متن کاملTurbulence Transition in Pipe Flow
Pipe flow is a prominent example among the shear flows that undergo transition to turbulence without mediation by a linear instability of the laminar profile. Experiments on pipe flow, as well as plane Couette and plane Poiseuille flow, show that triggering turbulence depends sensitively on initial conditions, that between the laminar and the turbulent states there exists no intermediate state ...
متن کاملRecent Experimental Results and Modelling of High-mach-number Jets and the Transition to Turbulence
In recent years, we have carried out experiments at the University of Rochester’s Omega laser in which supersonic, dense-plasma jets are formed by the interaction of strong shocks in a complex target assembly (Foster et al., Phys. Plasmas 9 (2002) 2251). We describe recent, significant extensions to this work, in which we consider scaling of the experiment, the transition to turbulence, and ast...
متن کاملStable Manifolds and the Transition to Turbulence in Pipe Flow
Lower-branch traveling waves and equilibria computed in pipe flow and other shear flows appear intermediate between turbulent and laminar motions. We take a step towards connecting these lower-branch solutions to transition by deriving a numerical method for finding certain special disturbances of the laminar flow in a short pipe. These special disturbances cause the disturbed velocity field to...
